There was a problem with the microphone at the start of the show that caused a absence of audio in the first segment of the full 3 hours. The problem was corrected in that segment and the show restarted.

Saturday concert, new video series, and interesting rumours!

Hello everyone:
Summer is finally starting, and I couldn't be happier about the warmer weather. It's time for outdoor festivals, new projects and big plans! Without further ado:

Saturday concert

I'm delighted to return to the Brantford Pagan Meet & Greet Festival for their 10th anniversary this Saturday! Come on down & spend a sunny day with your old friends. Everyone is welcome. Festival doors open at 10am. And if it rains – that’s OK too, since the concert will be held indoors :)
WHEN: Saturday, 03 June 2017, 3pm
WHERE: Mohawk Park, 51 Lynnwood Drive, Brantford, Ontario, Canada

American Sign Language Video Series

Right now, I'm in the midst of filming a unique and really exciting "triple storytelling" video project:  I'm collaborating with five Deaf actors on a series of 25 music videos.  As a Hearing person, I usually only get to experience American Sign Language (ASL) when someone is using it to directly translate English... but it's actually a very different language when spoken by lifelong Deaf people.  Thurga, Lisa, Mana, Sage, and Tamyka are all Deaf storytellers; they're not translating my poetry, but instead telling the same story their own way.  So really, each "triple storytelling" video will concurrently feature: 1) written English (my lyrics appearing on screen), 2) sung English (my song recording), and 3) the story retold in American Sign Language (ASL).  I'm loving this project!!  I'm learning so much about the vibrant culture of Deaf people, and making some amazing new friends in the process.  I'll be releasing the series this summer. :)
Lisa and Mana discuss the finer points of "Huron Carol" while Amanda nods knowledgeably.

Just in case you thought I haven't been up to much lately, I thought I'd share a couple of the big things we're working on here at Amphis Music:
- a big Canadian tour, tentatively called "Celtic Spark", for November and December (if you're interested in helping out, or know someone at a theatre or church or hall that might like to book the show, please email ben@heatherdale.com)
- a new album of all-original songs! I have so many great ideas swirling around that are just waiting to come out...
Thurga as Morgana in "Mordred's Lullaby". She's not going to get any more work as a babysitter...
Thanks and see you soon! Cheers, H :)

LAUNDRY DAY 5-17-2017 1 Hour Excerpt

First episode of Mind Mix Radio's Laundry Day.  It's pouring down rain in Cascade Montana so it was a good time to do the laundry and listen to the audio collection on the vinyl, cassettes, and discs.

This is an excerpt featuring Abbott & Costello and WW2 songs.  It took a little while to figure out how to get my old player equipment to plug into my broadcasting server.  But with a thousand freakin plug-in cords in the old box I finally found a set that did the job.  Works better than using the trusty studio microphone.  Any issue with audio quality is a result of the old 50 cent physical media.  It really wasn't all that terrible.  Audio has improved so much over the years but there's a nostalgic quality still to be found in the old stuff.  Gotta go back every once in a while and listen the old stuff too.

Here's the archived episode player for the 1 hour excerpt:

FILK-TASTIC Live session May 14 2017 at AWDIO and Icecast Stream

Heard Sundays 8pm to 11pm Mountain Time USA
As our presentation of the rare filk genre wraps up we give recognition to the many musicians of the pieces showcased tonight.  Some of them include Leslie Fish, Green Mountain Boys, Heather Alexander, Larry Warner & Tom Payne, Miracle of Sound, Julia Ecklar and Ann Prather, Stan Rogers, Axel F, Mercedes Lackey, Ian Fontova Valero, SJ Tucker, Heather Dale, LMFAO, and Tom Smith.  These unique musicians can be heard at gathers live and many have albums published that can be found online.  If you like this kind of music please consider finding their works or websites and send them your monetary support.  Nothing keeps a musician going like some coin in their purse or pocket.

Filk has a variety of styles and purposes.  There's something in it for every taste from the literary to the political allegory to the irreverent literal.  Most of the genre's musicians follow the bardic traditions and produce for the love of the art.  Listeners will find it more expressive and specific than most modern music.  In it you will find parody, metaphor, tragedy, hope, and the heroic.  It is possessed of a peculiar spirit lacking elsewhere.

Mind Mix Radio is proud to be involved in promoting this genre, a style and form of music you won't find in most stations content today.

We are still developing all the aspects of this station and are continually adding new facets to the operation and content.  Please check back often to see what we're doing!

Midnight Plus Coffee Equals Epiphany

I've lost count how many epiphanies I've had at midnight.  I blame it on the coffee.  It's convenient.

For six months or more I've been hunting for a means to put Mind Mix Radio's preferred chatroom and a custom listen live player on the same page for those listeners who need a one stop shop for the radio station.  Weird part is, I had the solution right under my nose all along.  I've had a couple of blogs at Blogger for years that I've used off and on during periods of public activity in the exopolitical genre as I looked over the landscape.  Turns out that their sites are capable of everything I need to solve that long-running problem.

So here will debut what was originally intended for interactive participation on the listener side.  It will also play host to station updates and episode links to the station archive.  Please feel free to leave comments and suggestions.  The whole idea here is to have a good place for public engagement.  The chatroom will be at the top of the page along with the live player.
